Your first reel
Upload your takes, let Lua build the reel, check it in the editor, and export it.
What you need
- Lua installed and signed in.
- Your takes: talking-head clips from your phone or camera. Retakes and mistakes are fine.
- Optional: your own b-roll, music, or the script you read from.
Start a video and add your takes
Start a new video. One screen takes everything: drop in your takes, plus any b-roll or music of your own, and paste your script if you have one.
On the same screen, pick a caption style (Ember, Ember Classic, Ephaphra or Halo) and the caption language: English, Tamil, Tanglish, or one of the beta languages. Switches let you turn the raw cut, captions or b-roll off for this video.
Your footage stays on your Mac. Only the audio is sent for transcription, in short pieces. The full list is on the “What leaves your Mac” page.
Press Next and let Lua work
Press Next. The editor opens on your takes straight away, and a “Building your video” card in the AI chat shows each step as it finishes: transcript, raw cut, captions, b-roll, export.
It takes a few minutes. You don’t have to watch, and Lua lets you know when it is done. Each step leaves a short note of what it did, or a plain reason if something failed.
Check the cut
Open the transcript. Words Lua cut are struck through. Click one to bring it back. If it kept the wrong take of a line, open that clip’s Takes list and swap it.

Change anything you like
Every caption, cut and b-roll shot is a normal clip on the timeline. Pick a different caption style, swap a b-roll shot for one of its alternatives, or drag things where you want them. ⌘Z undoes any step.

Or just ask. Type “make the hook faster” in the AI chat and it makes the change as ordinary edits you can see and undo.
Export
Press Export. The export dialog tells you before you start if anything is missing, such as a file on a drive that is not plugged in. You can cancel at any time.
Your reel is saved as an MP4. From there you can post it yourself, or use Lua’s Publish screen to post to Instagram.
